So, I was at Uni in Edinburgh. It took all day to put up the 12 interviews so I got the train across to Edinburgh every Sunday from Glasgow. I was working as a sports assistant; it was probably a way of keeping my wages low because I was basically doing an assistant producer role, cutting up match highlights and features. You then commentated on your first game which was Edinburgh V Conhact and I do believe a win for Edinburgh, was this your first experience of commentating?
Good research by the way, that was a record win for Edinburgh as well at the time. I had done one previously, so when I was at STV I sort of mentioned to them that I may be interested in trying commentary, not really knowing any route into that being a career at all. S o yeah, I just put my voice onto games and showed them that and then they they set up a commentary at Easter Road.
When I was at Setanta, I was that busy doing my assistant producer role, I never really got another opportunity to put my voice over a game. Were there any challenges that you had to face in your early career? Looking back at those times, our desk was Emma Dodds and Darrel Curry and you know, there was a lot of talent there almost waiting to be unleashed, everyone was kind of waiting for their opportunity.
